We changed the brassy black and gold replica frame for a most beautiful gilded original Spanish 17th century frame on this Murillo a few weeks ago and it is now back in the Gallery
Assereto’s Hagar and Angel re-framed today. We replaced the English ‘Lely’ frame with a newly acquired Italian 17th century fully carved and gilded frame.
This is quite a prolific week; Altdorfer‘s Christ taking leave of his Mother, taken out of its 1970s stained pine frame and now in a most beautiful early 16th century cassetta with fantastic original gilding
@BMAGcurators It is the most exquisite little picture, just look at Christ standing in the water! It was a challenge to find the right frame; wooden frames just looked too rough and I ended up casting a little bronze moulding.
