Outer lining (Optional)

At this point you can group all your layers, make a duplicate and merge the second group so that you have a back up.

With the merged layer you can liquify any mistakes and add an optional outline to make your emote more visible when small.

Shading

Now the fun part.
Lock each layers transparency and begin shading with a soft round brush to create a darker gradient from the bottom of each layer. Then with a hard round brush fill in the shadows. DO NOT over do the gradient.
Add highlights where needed. And done.

Colour

If your client's character is already made, they probably have colours you can colour pick.
Choose your colours and fill in lining with the fill tool. Each colour must be on a separate layer.
If the character has no colours find some premade colour palettes online.
