a theory that is probably wrong but wrapped up in strange coincidence is ritsuko's grandmother being kaji's cat lady contact and that's how ritsuko had the omnipresent / instantaneous realization that kaji'd rendezvoused with her in kyoto when he gave ritsuko that cat trinket
