on the other side of this we have hakuri who did everything he could to be acknowledged by someone, even he was conditioned to see them as less than human. the abuse he went through created a person who immediately regretted the result of his family’s conditioning on him
i wouldn’t doubt these two events weren’t very far from each other in the timeline, this change of heart was only possible because his family abused him and didn’t care to condition him the same way his brothers were conditioned
