Contrary to popular belief, Von Oppenheim was NOT first to know of the sculptures of the tell. It was the Iraqi-Assyrian archaeologist Hormuzd Rassam who first heard about the site in 1882, sent his representative to Tell Halaf, and confirmed the presence of sculptural ruins.(5)

I wanted to show that vision in the album art, and worked hard around garnering stylistic inspirations from Ottoman and Persian miniature while also inserting symbolic and iconographic visual elements reflecting the status of my culture in our own time.

(5/6) It was not the bombing that destroyed the sculptures. But unknowingly, when the burning museum was doused with water, the extreme heat from the basalt stones faced with cold water lead to the statues ‘exploding’, thus the tiny fragments you can see in the photo.
