15 Dutch & Flemish drawings have been lent by The Queen to @BarberInstitute's #MakingAMark exhibition. A highlight by #Rubens shows a nymph staining the face of Silenus with mulberries while he is caught in a drunken stupor. #ShareOurDrawings https://t.co/fLkO1AsGAU
Are you hoping to make a trip to the seaside soon? Here’s hoping it won’t be as busy as William Powell Frith’s ‘Life at the Seaside’. Frith visited Ramsgate on many occasions to ensure the painting was as realistic as possible.
#HappyMothersDay! Franz Xaver Winterhalter created this painting of #QueenVictoria with her third son at Osborne House in 1850. At around this time Queen Victoria wrote, 'Little Arthur is a magnificent baby & begins to sit up very nicely." https://t.co/7H3VlttUee
Although #GeorgeIV is satirised in this print about princely ambition, he clearly felt it a flattering depiction, purchasing it in 1790. Find out more about the king’s fraught relationship with satirists at The Queen’s Gallery, London until 3 May 2020. https://t.co/KQi2LMLwCS
#OTD in 1575, #GuidoReni was born, one of the favourite artists of Queen Henrietta Maria, Charles I’s wife. The Baroque master’s ‘Cleopatra with the Asp’ is currently on loan from the Royal Collection to @TheBowesMuseum in Durham. https://t.co/hNvaHjwR6d
Leonardo’s drawings ranged across many subjects, but they were divided in the C16th. The Royal Collection is strong in anatomy, botany, maps, horses & studies for paintings. We have few of his inventions in engineering, which are now mostly in Milan. #askacurator #Leonardo500
@routundroulleur Leonardo da Vinci was well off (not rich) and had horses and servants. He was probably gay and did not marry or have kids. I doubt he used cosmetics, but he was renowned for his love of fine clothes such as fur-lined cloaks and pink silk breeches. #askacurator #leonardo500
This watercolour of a blue-backed manakin on the branch of a pear tree was painted by Maria Sibylla #Merian. In 1699, she travelled to South America & spent 2 years studying & drawing the exotic flora & fauna. https://t.co/f23yNjYjbw
From Maria Merian's watercolours to miniature bottles of cherry brandy. Intricately decorated Chinese vases to Fabergé's wild cherries. There are plenty of examples of cherries in the Royal Collection for #NationalCherryDay
