All week, if you have any questions about sharks, marine biology, or ocean conservation, just ask!
(I’m also doing a Reddit AMA Monday at 1 pm eastern)
[Admin] thank you so much to Krystal Toney for an informative, fascinating, and really, really great week of science. Keep up with her always @KrystalMToney!!
[Admin] please join me in sending a big, big thanks to Julie for a fascinating week of science and real life!!! Keep up with her @Julianne_SF!
Satiated vampire bats routinely share blood with those who have gone hungry that night. Bats have fast metabolism and can't survive hungry for too long, so this food sharing is a great aid. What's responsible for the origin of this behavior?
[Admin] Big, big thanks and congratulations to the #BlackInGeoscienceWeek team (@BlkinGeoscience) for another fantastic week, and extra special thanks to Marjahn Finlayson (@MarjahnF) for taking over the account this week!!
Dr Maria Abou Chakra @PatternsNGames is a mathematical biologist working on stem cell models!
Maria also communicates science at meetings and conferences with her sci-sketchnotes!
More notes, fantastic art and info about Maria's research here:

Time to tell you about songbird neuroscience and my own work!
During my PhD, I studied how neurons can change their activity to allow more precise or vigorous movements when our environment demands it.
And some more context on the video: every blob of light you see is roughly a single neuron - when it lights up, it means its firing electric signals!
I'll elaborate more on all of this today!! Feel free to drop off any questions and i'll make sure to get to them.
BTW, if you want to learn more about how Jane Austen explored decisions and want to learn about Game Theory then I highly recommend the book "Jane Austen, Game Theorist" by Michael Suk-Young Chwe
