One of the earliest examples of what would later become the piping/seams of normal suits in 1979, designed by Yasuhiko in 1974 on season 2 of Zero Tester.
Changes, years apart, in how Yas handles this sort of gesture for a male villain. Season 2 of Zero Tester in 74' and Char Aznable illustrated sometime in 1980/1981. Both characters are wildly different, but serve as a foil for the main protagonists in their respective series.
Zero Tester's main cast, handled by Moribi Murano in the 73' opening on the left and the 74' opening on the right by Yas. Yas transmutes and learns from Moribi while improving upon his gestures in such a short period of time. In this case, his males are far more vivacious.
Given that Zero Tester was a Shonen show, Moribi was chosen as he had vast experience in the genre, with AD going as far back as 66' with Fight! Osper. Moribi's design sensibilities for male characters were strong and very, very expected. (left, Apache, right, Zero Tester).
Yas defines in his redesign of Jack Davis' characters heavy brows, jowls, large noses, and strong jawlines for characters that visually are to be defined as being 'bad' or in this case, grey in moral standings. They are monstrous and gangly, but in a comedic way.
Yas was also brought on as character designer for Wandering Sun/Nozomi in the Sun in 71'. The show was adapted by Mushi Pro from Keisuke Fujikawa and Mayumi Suzuki's popular shoujo manga of the same title. Comparatively, Yas also shows how he could adapt design qualities:
Yas' figural gestures for males started early with a much rounder theme that changed and evolved throughout the early 70s, though it was here that his very recognizable, if not iconic, 'contrapposto' stance, was born. Contrapposto = how a figure balances its weight by standing.
While Paul Coker Jr., the original character designer behind Frosty, contributed to the production of the titular film, it would be Yasuhiko who would ultimately redesign Frosty to be far rounder and at ease to animate with Mushi Pro staff at the time.
