Refusing to accept that he would never return to heaven, Azazel made one last attempt to prove he was still in God’s grace. He poured holy water over himself, dousing only half of his face before pain forced him to stop.
By killing sinful humans, Azazel was taking it upon himself to deliver divine punishment, and thus he was opposing God’s will and was cast out of heaven. His wings were cut from his body, and he was thrown to the earth. Alone and in immense pain, Azazel was devastated.
However, when taking a corporeal form, he would’ve looked more like a “typical” angel. As an extremely powerful angel, it was Azazel’s job to track down and kill demons. With time, though, he stopped seeing the difference between demons and particularly evil humans.
