Restocking zine no.1 later this month for anyone who missed out. I might also sell some of my Yorkshire stone illustrations as little print/postcards on a limited run.
Below are:
1. Pre-conquest stone cross fragment. St Mary Bishophill Jr. York.
2. Font at St Mary, Stainburn. https://t.co/Mp0Xbn6ChU
So I was taking a photo of some buildings in Middlethorpe to enrich the list for @HistoricEngland - not to dob them in, but this range of brick houses or lodges if related to the Manor or Hall in laters years, had a sign beside the door saying they were/are a listed building. Eh? https://t.co/xrrU5UVodU
OTD in 1927, Kirkstall Abbey Miracle Play opened for 12 days. Produced by Walter Nugent Monck. This is an original publication in the @theleedslibrary archive. @LeedsCivicTrust @LeedsMuseums
A sombre contemplation reflecting the hopes and fears of service men and women. Depicting those who pray for the lives of loved ones - and mourn the loss of sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, husbands and wives.
out of curiosity did fire destroy any other UK greater churches/parts of them, during the first half of the C19th? Admittedly, Doncaster and York are the only two to have come up on my northern-focused radar. I spy the roof of Canterbury's Trinity Chapel later in 1872 - any more?
St. Saviours, Richmond Hill, Leeds. Work began in 1842 by Irish architect John Macduff Derick and here is the spire that never was. The illustration rather exaggerates the gothic qualities of the exterior, which is still to be found wanting. Damaged drawing is inside the church
