They literally just realized mid production that their usual Gengar colours don't match the way it's portrayed in the franchise as a whole and updated it since it was about to get a bigger role. The ending got edited in episode 7, a whole month before our Gengar's actual debut

Btw I absolutely love Gengar's pose and the fighting types just being kinda awkward on valentine's, A+ official art too bad Mr. Fish just barely missed the occasion but hey gave me a good fanart idea at least

They'll probably play up the nostalgia angle with Shigeru in a way that might not totally fit his last appearances, though I always preferred him cocky so would be nice to see more of that while still keeping the overall good vibes
