final thoughts/tldr: stick to the compositing trick to get the full texture, not just one color. it is nice though to check it in real time so I can make decisions quicker

the end goal was to get a black and white mask so that when I mix the shaders, I would have a fac input. did the same with the eyelashes too. the shaders were turned into rgb for "darken" instead of mix. why? idk. just found darken to be the most similar with the original texture
it looks great already with just those two maps. I can also keep the world light at zero so lights are very much customizable. next I need to do is:
1. finish the ILM map
2. edit normals and maybe some retopology

did the SSS map for Shion's face. I just used the Base Map and figured out what color I wanted to multiply it with to get it's color in shadow. obviously, I can't just pick one color so I based off the shaded color with the darker parts of the texture.
tldr a lot of layer masks
