Since other months, like January are named after ROMAN gods, you'd be forgiven for thinking February was named after Roman god Februus. But,the word February comes from Roman festival of purification called Februa, during which people were ritually washed.

JANUARY was named for the Roman god Janus ,known as the protector of gates and doorways who symbolize beginnings and endings. Janus is depicted with two faces, one looking into the past, the other with the ability to see in to the future.
