I just read Piece By Piece by @Priya_Huq & from @ABRAMSbooks. It is a complex, harrowing, and compelling graphic novel that tackles some difficult subject matter, namely anti-Muslim prejudice & violence. It is also gorgeously painted. My review: https://t.co/RQt75z0623
I just read Yummy: A History of Desserts by @fridayafternoon & from @RHKidsGraphic. It's a delightful, deep dive into the origins of pie, cake, ice cream, and more that also touches on global politics, science, innovators, legends, & recipes. My review: https://t.co/d9i5HBUv1d
Just read the most incredible book - Turner Family Stories published by @vermontfolklife. It has multiple comics adaptations of an oral history collected from 100-year-old Daisy Turner in 1983. She was the child of ex-slaves, and it contains so much about post-Civil War life,
I just read Cold War Correspondent, the 11th(!) entry in Nathan Hale's Hazardous Tales by @MrNathanHale & from @abramskids. It's as phenomenal as other books in the series, and I loved its mix of history & journalism. Marguerite Higgins ROCKS! My review: https://t.co/eKKmYIp7Ad
Check out Crash Site, created by Nathan Cowdry & published by @fantagraphics. I really enjoyed it, and if you read my review (https://t.co/dd1D42sWxw), you can find out why I wrote, "So much about this book made me feel uncomfortable and off-balance, but in such compelling ways."
I just read Not a Place to Visit by @tedwardbak & from @floating_world. It's a smart, engaging collection of nonfiction essays about environmental concerns. It's not only informative, it is important for our potential future on Earth. Read my review here: https://t.co/74gD33xz8z
That Full Moon Feeling is a queer, supernatural, love story about a witch and a werewolf who meet on a dating app. It's by @ARFranklinstein, and even though it's full of wonderfully horrid monsters, it's also an authentic and refreshing take on contemporary romance.
Check out my review of Allergic by Megan Wagner Lloyd & @buttersketch_ here: https://t.co/cfcplFiH9C. It's a #graphicnovel about how 10-year-old Maggie adapts to a bunch of changes in her life, including a new sibling, a new school, & a new diagnosis. From @GraphixBooks
Every year I read a lot of comics, and here is my list of Favorite #graphicnovels of 2020: https://t.co/mWys3kAqkU Enjoy!
And Happy 2021!
