Whenever I’m creating colour work I regularly check my values. For this I’ll add a layer, fill that with black and turn the blend mode to colour. I can instantly see if the background is too dark, if the foreground is dark enough and if the lighter areas stand out.

This is a sketch and oil painting that I created in the mid 2000’s as part of a series of different genres. At the time I was sending examples of my work to different companies and I also took the same series to a couple of comic conventions to try and drum up some interest.

Tony Stella is another poster/cover artist that I came across recently. He takes movie posters and redoes them in various traditional mediums from ink wash to watercolours. I love his unique style, excellent sense of design and the hand painted finish he uses. #tonystella

A good friend of mine recently celebrated her 50th birthday and, as I wasn’t able to join her due to the pandemic, I decided to paint her a portrait instead. For this painting I again blended photoshop and artrage for a more traditional looking result. #birthdaypresent🎁

Last year I was lucky enough to be asked to create the cover illustration for the 3rd book in the Call of the Rift series entitled ‘Crest’ by Jae Waller.
