BEAT'S THEME TUNES FEELINGS TIME!
honestly the journey from jump over yourself, to tatakai, to breaking free is so fuckin' emotional, it messes me up. it plays when beat tells neku about rhyme, and it's so clearly about who beat was before he died, and his own self-loathing.
i am once again feeling Fine And Normal about these
LOOK AT THESE LOOK AT THESE WAHHHH EVERYONE GO COM @mrkofthekindred THESE ARE SO GOOD!!!
IM SO HAPPY IM SO HAPPY WAH IM CRYING IN THE CLUB, I LOVE BEAT NATION AND I LOVE MY TWEWY FAMILY SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AND THE FINAL DAY...as everyone is being ERASED, beat still tries to stay strong for neku, tells him not to worry about him, his thoughts are for other people, worried more about the kids than himself, then fucking dies as neku helplessly watches - just like beat once did him 😭
HE LOOKED ALL OVER FOR HIM!!! i love that he had this brief moment of anger, but then neku just smiles and they immediately slip back into their old dynamic because that's the BOND, BABY, AND THEY HELPED EACH OTHER GROW! also, beat nearly dying then just 'rindo u ok' BABY BOY
AND THEN!! HIM!! RIGHT BACK AT THE UDAGAWA MURAL, WHERE HE WATCHED NEKU DIE THREE YEARS AGO, HE IS SO READY TO GIVE HIS LIFE TO PROTECT THE TWISTERS!! HE REFUSES TO STAND BY AND WATCH SOMEONE HE LOVES DIE, NOT EVER AGAIN!! 'OVER MY DEAD BODY', BEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!
THEN!! WE GET MENTOR BEAT!! he recognises these kids as vulnerable at the hands of the reapers' machinations and he is RIGHT THERE to help them. the group had been splintering in the wake of sho leaving, and beat is RIGHT THERE to pick them up, motivate them and heal old wounds.
then when we meet neo beat, he takes off the 'disguise' soon as he realises he's back in the UG, that he's closer to finding neku. he's clearly dealt with his survivor's guilt this time by building on what he learned in first game, and becoming more active rather than wallowing.
