The NIAN is a creature most associated associated with the Chinese New Year. The creature would once a year come into town and reek havoc on the inhabitants. Till one day it was scared off by use of fire works.

The Manananggal is famous in the Philippines as a real monster. Also known as a kind of Aswang. They can pass as a normal person but at night they can detached detached from their lower half.
