"Wer reitet so spät durch Nacht und Wind?
Es ist der Vater mit seinem Kind;
...
Mein Sohn, was birgst du so bang dein Gesicht?
“Siehst, Vater, du den Erlkönig nicht?
Den Erlenkönig mit Kron und Schweif?”"
From "Der Erlkönig" by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Living and Dead Water are two types of water often found in Czech or Russian tales. When a person dies, they are sprinkled with the dead water for the wounds to heal, and then the living water is splashed on them for them to come back to life.
