It’s International Forest Bathing day. I wrote a book about taking walks in green places to see if it eased my depression. It did: my walks helped me recover from a prolonged suicidal episode. In The Wild Remedy I illustrate my walks & explain the science of how nature mends us.
Recently I learned about the Colleoni family who lived in medieval Bergamo, Italy. Their name was derived from coleus, the Latin for testicle and their coat of arms was notable for consisting of a red and white ground with 3 contrasting ball bags.
Feeling sad about all the things?
Yep, me too, but I came across this medieval drawing of bloke dressed up as a stag and it cheered me up a bit.
Might do the same for you x

I’d like to buy a copy of Four Hedges by Clare Leighton for 2 people who need it, for @Biggreenbooks’ #buyastrangerabook day. It’s about making a garden from an unpromising patch of ground & Clare’s illustrations are utterly beautiful. This book has helped me through v dark times
Hope you don't mind this hog thread: these illustrations cheer me up.
UK hedgehogs are having a terrible time due to habitat loss, but you can cut a hole in your fence/gate to help them move about &/or donate to the hedgehog preservation society here: https://t.co/eLCLfLBjye
I explain more about how nature can fend off depression & anxety & how it helped me to stick around by shifting my thoughts away from the darkest place in my book The Wild Remedy. We filled it with my photos & illustrations to lift your mood as you read. #mentalhealth #Autumnwatch
My book’s having quite a day which is lovely, but *that* website has run out of copies again.
If you’re struggling to get hold of The Wild Remedy online please let Simon @Biggreenbooks know as he may be able to help.
