Jesus, Good Shepherd,
raise up in all parish communities,
priest and deacons, religious,
consecrated lay people and missionaries
according to the needs of the whole world,
which You love and want to save.

we might know
how to overcome all the obstacles
that we encounter
in accomplishing our mission.
Teach us to treat the affairs
of the world
with a real sense of Christian responsibility
and a joyful hope
of the coming of God's Kingdom, and
of a "new heaven and a new earth".

O Virgin of the Magnificat,
fill their hearts
with a gratitude and enthusiasm
for this vocation and mission.

With humility and magnanimity
you were the "handmaid of the Lord";
give us your unreserved willingness
for service to God
and the salvation of the world.

ON THE VOCATION AND MISSION OF LAY PEOPLE.

O Most Blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church,
With joy and wonder we seek to make our own your Magnificat,

He raised h is servant, Israel,
Rememb'ring his eternal grace,
As from of old he did foretell
To Abraham and all his race.

O Father, Son, and Spirit blest,
In threefold Name are you adored;
To you be ev'ry prayer addrest,
From age to age the only Lord.

From this day all shall call me blest,
For he has done great things for me.
Of all great names his is the best,
For it is holy; strong is he.

His mercy goes to all who fear,
From age to age and to all parts.
