There's going to be a lunar occultation of Uranus this New Year's Day.
Although it will favour the northern parts of the UK, if you're in the path of occultation it will be a great event to observe through a telescope:

The image contains multiple sequences from the beginning of the event up to the end, including a moonset (hence the orange hue).

Look closely and you can see a black spot to the left of the Great Red Spot. That's Europa's shadow!
