Sad to read Raymond Briggs has died. Many will of course know him for Snowman but his fictionalised autobiography ‘Ethel and Ernest’ covering #WW2 was very powerful too & shows the value of fiction in our understanding of WW2, especially for young minds: https://t.co/TeFSjyX2bx
An old pal Dave O'Mara (@croonaert) sadly left us yesterday; far too young, with so much more yet to achieve. Dave's legacy was immense and cast light in corners of the Great War that were previously dark. A generous & modest bloke, he taught us a lot and will be greatly missed.
Really enjoyed this book 'A Second Christmas Truce?' by @KarenEtteLufbra about the meeting of Ernst Junger's 73rd Hannovarians & the Leicesters at Monchy au Bois in December 1915. Well worth a read!
@rennyRichardso2 I don't have any specifically of the Crawley Company, unfortunately. I have ones like this, which I think is Chi, taken on Mobilisation, but it's not the whole battalion.
Packing books for a move, I’ve come across some of my late mum’s artwork. She had a rare talent to copy things she loved and sketch birds and nature from memory. They bring back such fabulous memories of her.

#Ypres1940: Karl Salhof was one of those killed in the fighting in Flanders in May 1940. I rescued his papers and letters from a junk shop many years ago. He'd previously fought in Poland and was awarded a EK2.
