I was really pleased with his hand (detail) of portrait of a crew member of The Sutton Hoo ship’s company. I don’t know why i gridded the canvas as i painted straight by eye. oiloncanvas

Started work on this portrait of a gondolier. Very lovely chap who gave me his time on our last visit. This is just a preliminary sketch to get the feel of the colour and composition.

Really pleased I was able to carry on with this commission today. A Thames Barge sailing up the Alde to Snape. Once water is done I’ll work the reeds on the near bank. Still work in progress. ape
