getting back into the painting grind

i had this concept back in june, but i never fulfilled it because i didnt think my art style resembled splatoon enough. i never drew the line underneath the eye, so i was very conflicted about thing like shape and aesthetic. it never felt "squishy" or "bright" enough 🧵

and i got to a point where this was just all i could do. it's very nice, don't get me wrong, but i improved in such a linear direction because of how i convinced myself to chase after comments and large numbers

each piece got more sparkly, more complex, more rendered and delicate (2020)

i did all my work in ibis paint at the time - so when i got a tablet and CSP, i discovered i could create rendered pieces in about 3-5 hours

instagram is competitive. it's not built for artists. it's based on an algorithm. and the more i realised that, the more i got myself sucked in thinking i had to make my style more anime - so i stopped paying attention to what i actually wanted to do and just drew girls

i felt like i needed a redemption arc
