Le Roman de Renart (Renart’s Novel) is a medieval book gathering many stories from the XIVth century. It stars many chars with animal traits living with humans. (The cartoon reused names from those characters btw).
Like the Fables, it also criticises the society of this time.
About the books : Les Fables de Fontaine
Jean de la Fontaine (1621-1695) was an extremely famous french poet known for his fables. They all had the particularity to criticise the Court, or Society at large, and starred characters as animals.
