The "abomasum" is the last chamber and the true stomach of the cattle, because it releases acids and enzymes to truly digest the cud.
This includes the bacteria and archaea that fermented the cud, because the cow also needs to take back the nutrients the microbes consumed!
Did you guys know that a cattle's stomach is pretty complicated? It actually has four chambers!
The first one is called "rumen". The rumen is where most of the bacterial fermentation happens-- but it's not all bacteria. Methanogens from the domain Archaea are also in the rumen!
