Of course, I don't know how much of this is Shinkawa himself and how much is other marketing and graphic design people who worked with him.
Here's a little experiment I did trying to dissect one part of this illustration
Shinkawa seems to have this habit of using duplicated and resized lineart as this subtle additional shading or background. Sometimes it is so subtle that you can't even really tell.
It's a thing I try to emulate in my art, but with varying results.
