April 1st is CLAMP Day cuz the date has a running theme of importance in multiple stories & some of their most iconic characters celebrate birthdays today. Namely:
Sakura Kinomoto(CCS/Tsubasa)
Syaoran Li(Tsubasa)
Kimihiro Watanuki(xxxHolic)
Seishirou Sakurazuka (Tokyo Babylon/X)
Most importantly to ME, CLAMP from the jump has incorporated LGBTQIA+ characters in ALL of their stories in a way that doesn’t exploit queer trauma or perpetuate stereotypes. They simply exist, feel joy & sadness, & are heroes/heroines. (My favorite being Tomoyo Daidouji of CCS)
Known for their signature art style of long/lanky limbed characters and dynamic backgrounds, their storytelling ability is almost even more impressive, with each story containing lighthearted fun coupled with a steady undercurrent of incredible emotional depth and life lessons.
Virtually unmatched in the field, these four women have had a hit manga/anime in every decade and every genre. Spanning shonen/action, shojo/romance, Seinen/adult themed titles, fantasy, sci-Fi, mecha, horror, YOU NAME IT! LITERALLY no one has come close to their accomplishments.
Today is April 1st, meaning it’s CLAMP DAY! CLAMP is a manga-making group of 4 women who met in high school & got their first story, RG Veda, serialized on June 1st (My Birthday) 1987! Since then they’ve been responsible for some of manga/anime’s greatest works. A few pictured:
