This Avengers Special Edition starts with a 7-page summary (by Walt Simonson and Tom Palmer!) of the precious four issues, which were drawn and inked by Sal Buscema!
The super basestars from the comics are so ingrained in my memories of the series that I’m now disappointed when I rewatch the old episodes and they don’t exist.
Here’s an illustration from Armstrong Sperry’s ‘Cast Alive into the Molten Heart of a Volcano’ from 1926. There’s a sacrifice and lava, but it’s an actual volcano rather than what I would consider a “pit.”

This Dirty Pair manga, which comes out in two weeks, looks great! Art by Hisao Tamaki, who drew the spectacular Star Wars manga!
The faces on the chests of these pjs reminded me of Go Nagai villains. Ankoku Daipharaoh!
