District 9 director Neill Blomkamp was developing a sequel to James Cameron’s Aliens. It would‘ve brought Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn back, focusing on the consequences of the aliens being weaponized. It was cancelled when Fox decided to focus on the Prometheus movies.

Sofia Coppola spent years developing a “very dark” adaptation of The Little Mermaid w/Maya Hawke as the lead. However the studio wanted a more established star, which led to Chloe Grace Moretz getting cast instead. Ultimately, Coppola left the project due to creative differences.

Emma Stone was offered a role in Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters but turned it down because she didn’t want to do another franchise so soon after The Amazing Spider-Man.
