In the painting, a woman hands out wings from her little hut to all comers, who arrive up the river by goat-towed boat. One, just given new wings, is launching himself into the sky...

The poem 'Love in the Asylum' by Dylan Thomas was what partly inspired this little painting (as well as a dream I had where I was harbouring birds under my skirt).

For today's #folktaleweek prompt of FEAST I'm sharing the famous gingerbread house, which in this folk-surreal painting is actually the body of a puppet who is operating her own strings. She leads a rabble of wondrous strangeness through a Russian winter landscape.
