i got some news earlier today that really devastated me so commissions, art and everything else will be put on a hiatus for a time

What should really be strived for is that *you* get better. Admit your shortcomings, and you're already halfway there.
You can never be the best, but you can always do your best. Just make sure you don't push yourself to your breaking point. You'll get there.
