Pollution! There are many examples of churchyards polluted by the shedding of blood in the northern registers. In 1315 the clergy & parishioners of St Mary, Nottingham were not to bury any corpses in the church or churchyard, polluted by bloodshed (Reg 8, f. 206r). 1/3
