Now onto colours, and this one was probably even more complex than the other, because the sorceror is holding a fireball, plus there's weird lighting from the mist all through the scene and the luminous tendrils on the monster.

then colouring! I colour in photoshop by first separating out the lineart, then painting bg and foreground flats, layering in shadow, a nice paper texture so it suits my shaky hand lineart better, and finally gradient map and line colour to bring it all together.
