A friend in my Japanese class pointed this out to me, so I’ll repeat it here. As we learned yesterday, #Pikachu is based on the squirrel, BUT NOT AMERICAN SQUIRRELS. It’s based on the Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrel! This explains why the original Pikachu design has a white belly.
