#OTD in 1830 #MaryAnning wrote to JS Miller, Curator of Bristol Institution @bristolmuseum offering him an ichthyosaur paddle for £1, and a fossil fish she had discovered in December 1829. She recognised that it was a new, undescribed fossil and sought a modern analogue: 1/4
#MaryAnning corresponded with many of the leading geologists of her day. #OTD in 1829 she wrote to Charles Lyell about rates of coastal erosion - 3 ft a year - at Church Cliffs at #LymeRegis, details Lyell included in vol 1 of his Principles of Geology. 1/2
