Eventually the fan translation came out, eventually we could all play and enjoy the game, but in many ways I think that feeling lingers. I think I got a deep impression that no matter how much I wanted it, this game ultimately was not intended for me, so I couldn't have it.

A lot of people had discovered Earthbound completely blind, they wanted to relive that experience as much as possible. As such, the fandom got very strict about spoilers to the extent where, indeed, even a single pic of the game was a contentious issue.

Nintendo designed the picori for one game and then never used them again, which honestly should just be straight up illegal.

Honestly kind of a shame they just went with Yoshi worldwide, without staying true to the comical spirit of his name just being a regular guy name in Japan.

It's basically like if he was just called Johnny or something.
