Tove Jansson dreaming on a tiny uninhabited island in the Gulf of Finland

Part of the Swedish-speaking minority of Finland, Tove Jansson wrote short stories and articles, which she also illustrated. She also drew illustrations for an anti-fascist Finnish-Swedish magazine.

While room-hunting alone in Lyon, an Algerian man in an Adidas tracksuit on a wheelchair bought me a sandwich.

I don't remember how I met him or much of what was said while we sat together, but I remember him waving goodbye as he crossed the tram tracks when we parted ways.
