For whatever reason copyright regarding cartoon characters is a topic I find interesting.
And something I often ponder is whether or not an incredibly obscure background character design is properly copyrighted.
Like... these guys.
Somehow I doubt it.
I read somewhere that Katy Kangaroo was actually one of the first female protagonists in video games... And it made me realize that because of Saturday Supercade, she was also possibly the first female protagonist in animation that wasn't somebody's girlfriend (or a princess).
There are occassions when I wish a cartoon series was slightly more adventure oriented, especially when they have fantasy sequences or in-universe fiction like this.
Further examples by Disney
Why did Disney stop making shows like these? They're so boldly liberal and free-thinking, not to mention incredibly individual in their art style.
Lately I've been more inspired by quirky, obscure cartoons like this than by anything "normal" or popular.
I mean sure, Gravity Falls is an amazing show, but ultimately doesn't get the creative juices flowing in me the same way as these shows do.
Case in point:
There's an episode where these seemingly helpless talking flowers are being chased by giant crabs, but the flowers are revealed to be evil monsters.
There's even a song about how looks can be deceiving, and that "ugly" things aren't always bad.
Told Dall-e Mini to give me a Disney weasel. Not exactly what I expected, but surprisingly accurate. Film grain... the deep blue color... they look like something from the 1970s or early 1980s.
