Takahiro Kishida's designs of the early 2000s are an embodification of what good designs should be in my opinion. They're loose, but have very distinct and well defined shapes. They're simple, but every character has their own personality. And of course they look great in motion!

Thought I should have more fun on Twitter, so here we go - the shows I'll be watching in Fall season for sure.

Gundam is a strong contender for joining the party because of Kobayashi kantoku, but haven't decided yet if I'm really going to watch it.

Funnily enough, he also went to work on Kimagure Orange Road TV series, where he served as the director for episodes 1-9. Mochizuki, who directed the pilot in 1985, ended up directing only one episode of it.

Characters can't exist without the world around them and the task of creating it was entrusted to the great art director Shichirou Kobayashi (小林七郎), whose backgrounds are as beautiful as ever. His way of depicting urban settings will never cease to amaze me.

Character designs were created by Akemi Takada (高田明美) and are very reminiscent of her later work on Kimagure Orange Road. She didn't supervise them though and animation direction duties were handled by Masako Gotou (後藤真砂子), who'd later work as CAD on aforementioned show.

Mochizuki's episode is exceptional, his direction captures the eerie atmosphere perfectly, just what you'd imagine from a story like this from that period of time.

I love Tomomi Mochizuki's (望月智充) Ocean Waves (海がきこえる) and consider it one of my favorite movies of all time, but haven't really seen much of his other works. Today I watched first episode of Twilight Q (トワイライトQ), which he directed.

I probably I wouldn't consider it a masterpiece, but I don't think that was the intention. It's a mix of some common tropes, but executed in a masterful way, making it something extraordinary. Truly exceptional work, popculture at its peak.

It was also one of the first jobs of Naoyuki Onda (恩田尚之) as character designer and animation director. Phenomenal drawings all around with some really cool animation bits here and there.

To-Y, an OVA from 1987 which happens to be a directional debut of Mamoru Hamatsu (浜津守), is one of the most aesthetically pleasing things I've seen my entire life.
