Did you know there were plans for themed buildings for Aberdeen Zoo?
The Zoo was first proposed in 1961 and grew in size but financial difficulties led to its closure in 1977. These buildings were never built but their plans are fun!

This woodcut shows a gardener harvesting medicinal crops. Knowledge of the properties of plants and herbs was harnessed by medical doctors but also less formal practitioners.

#OnThisDay in 1746, 275 years ago, the Battle of Culloden took place. It was the last battle fought on British soil.
At about 1pm the Jacobite Army opened fire on Hanoverian troops.
In under an hour of battle, about 1,300 were killed and roughly 1,250 were Jacobites.

This is a charming collection of sketches with text descriptions of habitats, colours, and blossoms (c.1860s-70s). It was purchased in Japan and given to the University in 1882. 🌸

After the Battle of Culloden in 1746, she helped Bonnie Prince Charlie evade government troops by famously dressing him as her her maid.
