you'll often also see that they develop a better sense of contrast – the difference between dark and light, hard and soft often becomes more pronounced
they often get better at technical details – shapes, angles, perspectives, lines, lighting... but what I like to really look out for is the introduction of nuance that they couldn't quite manage or "afford" before
One of my favorite memes from over a decade ago (!!!) was "draw this again", where artists would revisit their older work and reinterpret it
I love paying close attention to what changes and what stays the same, and to how they get better at achieving their own intent
want another litmus test of how iconic a symbol is?
skin in the game, literally:
this is now a thread about iconic visuals
first some, supporting evidence that eilish actually got this done
this is not an easy feat!! a lot of more successful artists (i'm thinking maybe even rihanna and beyonce?? or mariah carey, etc?) don't have such iconic images
I'm always fascinated when I fall *hard* for a new artist I just discovered
I think of artists as having multiple knobs that they can turn
Mahdieh has all her knobs tuned very similarly to how I like mine tuned - the correct level of detail, anatomy, light, color, weight
more of Mahdieh's work, I believe that this is her modern interpretation of older Iranian fashion/costumes
I think it was this article that persuaded me to give it a shot
the additional danger really forces you to pay more attention to everything, which leads a more engaging flow state
