There's a difference between GOOD messy line art, and bad for FNF. A few tips I've got for this are to...

-Draw quick strokes
-NEVER USE SMOOTHEN FEATURES ON ANIMATE/CS4
-Set smoothing up at least a little, don't leave it at default settings. It may be messy, but not THAT messy.

With idles, try to make the transition between the first and second frames, along with the last two frames close together! The only odd one(s) will be the middle frame(s).
