The Kharkiv painter Oleksandr Bohomazov organized avant-garde street art and was active with the Association of Revolutionary Art of Ukraine while teaching at the Kyiv State Art Institute. He died of tuberculosis in 1930.

Bogomazov was born outside Kharkiv and lived largely in Kyiv. A modern art theoretician of the Ukrainian avant-garde, he began his teaching career at a school for the deaf and mute in 1912.
