There's no substitute for studying the real thing.
Once there, the family took a side trip to the beaches in South Wales.
While standing in the water, I looked back at the shore and realized a flaw in the painting still sitting on my easel at home.
When I got back to the studio, I repainted the water and then sent it in.
This was the first cover in the Dragonriders of Pern series to feature the fire lizards and I really enjoyed painting them.
When I finished, I had a vague sense of unease and didn't sent it in to the publisher before leaving for the World SF Convention in Brighton, England.
Up until this point in my End of Nature series, I had portrayed the people who represent humanity in general as somewhat oblivious to the support that nature was providing for them.
