for the gems, being able to regenerate means that they don't have a good sense of danger. Opal is particularly bad on this, and will frequently lose parts of their body to accidents while in the forge (prototype breaking, forgetting that metal is melted/hot, etc.)

agate (right) and jasper (left). 'twins' in a sense, as the gems are different formations of quartz and chalcedony (among other components). onyx also has that going on internally, so it's honestly fitting i ended up giving them all wings in the end.
