I did a similar composition for a @MScottMcCulloug book cover recently.

Different execution but same result

@mattcrotts @DonalTDeLay Big fan of both you guys’ work and wandering into this convo late.

I’ve played with blurring…in my humble opinion it looks weird because it breaks the linework/brush strokes.

Depth of field can be done just as crearly via contrast and level of detail.
Recent thing by me:
