Mitsuba’s reflection in Kou’s camera, abd the matching backgrounds make me think that Kou visited the same spot where Mitsuba died, holding his camera, just to see what Mitsuba felt like.

And because Mitsuba’s last breaths were taken right there, a bit of him still remains.
