I guess in a way, Bishoujou aesthetics in STG was always there, just the vibe of the aesthetics differed due to the collective art styles of the era.

It's kinda wild how the Donpachi series represents the transition from STG focusing on traditional planes and tanks to more bishoujo focused aesthetics and marketing.
