In Japan, it is thought that the "Ainu" people who lived in the Shinnoh area (Hokkaido) may have chosen Pokémon with motifs of Blakiston's fish owl, volcanoes, and sea otters, which they believed in!

Pokémon Legends Arceus with Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott as our starters, this looks fun 💙
Seeing a lot of people wonder why Cyndaquil was chosen alongside Oshawott & Rowlet, as those seem obvious picks for the game's setting given they evolve into a samurai and an archer. My guess: Johto is the region with the closest ties to Japan's past, and required representation.
Knowing that all three of these starters are based on Hokkaido culture, which the Sinnoh region is based on, is pretty neat.
